Recently (march 22nd) a very awesome conference on Artificial Intelligence has been held in Japan: the 4th Cognitive Science and Entertainment Symposium at University of Electro-Communication in Tokyo.
Not only was it awesome because it featured a showmatch of Japanese Warsow-stars bluespear and fumio, but even more because Mr. Akira Mizukami presented his work on 'Human like AI player for Warsow' - as my understanding of Japanese is very limited, I'll quote Warsow Dev Guwashi on the translation:
"using machine learning method based on neural network to improve BOT's behavior. I heard the author made a mod to record all human players actions (Test players are bluespear and fumio :)), and he input those data to neural network as learning data to let BOT act like human."
Doesn't that sound nice? :). Now we've been told the source of this project will probably turn up online sooner or later, so stay tuned for more!
Now, for some additional reading and info:
- Forum thread (check out first post for some links)
- Guwashi's photos
- Yu Matsui's blog post on the symposium (with videos!)

Latest rumor a.k.a. shortest newspost in Warsow history:
Dutch digital television channel 101.tv is starting up a gameshow. Gamer01 - look at that page, Warsow's on it! We don't know what'll happen exactly, but it looks like Gamer01 is going to feature live Warsow (they say the pilot starts this Wednesday evening at 7). It looks pretty cool. We'll keep you updated!

A quick headsup on a new cup coming up: Overactive is running a 5on5 'Long' Bomb cup. Clans sign up with a minimum of 5 players (though it's always safe to have extras :p) and play a match versus another clan once a week. So far there have been 7 teams signing up, but it's not too late to get assembled into a team and join them! Remember though, you'll have to have 5 players available at least once a week! Not managing to agree on a time with your opponents means the match will be forced on the Sunday @ 20h CET.
Also, for everyone interested to play but clanless (poor you!) take a look at this topic, started to organize all the lonely bombers in teams!
The map pool is: wbomb1, reactors_2, alley, shepas, emwarehouse. For more information, head on to the forums or check out http://longcup.tourney.cc/

For the next nice project. After EPIC Warsow movies such as pez' trickjumping movie, SNP's legendary First Contact fragmovie, and not to forget the excellent-but-too-short-to-be-considered-an-epic-Warsow-movie Warsow 0.5 Trailer things have been rather quiet in Warsowywood. That might be unfair to all Warsow moviemakers who are breaking their asses producing great stuff, but I just wanted to squeeze my personal top 3 in this newspost... :p
But I might revise this top 3 as soon as h1o - a.k.a. the man who never sleeps - is finished collecting and analyzing all YOUR awesome frags, great tricks, nice flagcaps, great teamwork sequences and funny gameplay moments, and passing it on to his top-secret "team of experienced movie makers" to produce the next best thing in Warsow cinema history. Imagine: the new number 1 of IMDB's top 100 featuring... you! Give the man what he's asking for. Send in your demos. If you don't have any nice demos yet, setup your Warsow client to autorecord demos and whenever something cool happens, write that shit down! (or, better yet, set up xgo's demo collector - read here for more details)
Leaves me to state h1o's rules:
- Only 0.5 and 0.51 demo's
- Timestamp your demos
- Tell us your nickname and country and what cg_showtimer ? you use.
- Then rar them or send them all in the same email
So that's it. Zip them demos up and mail them to hajodepajo -at- hotmail -dot- com. And read the stuff on the forum.
Warchoo-choo!

Last night's Lovesow Bomb Pickup Cup was a great success. A success with 40+ players that is! Team BigVic, Monada and BoBot got top three, respectively. The winning Warsowians, united under the name of the great BigVic are: sic_mUnky, iceman, kiki, joo, SixT. Congrats to you happy team of puggers!
Could the reason of the big turnout for this cup be the community saying BOMB after h1o asked 'what gametype do you want to see in the next Lovesow cup?'. Maybe.
Whatever the reason is, the man who reportedly jumped out of a flying airplane naked is doing it again. So go ahead! You did it before, you do it again - answer what gametype you want to see (better yet: play) in the next Lovesow Cup!
<h1o> Give feedback for my pickup cup and think of ways how to improve it please! Also vote for the gametype of the new pickup cup @ Lovesow
But that's not all on the Warsow competition horizon. When all Lovesow-cuppers were deeply asleep, the North American Warsowians were duking it out in the name of Lucksow Cup #2. Word on the forums is the live shoutcasts were legendary. If you're as bummed out as me for missing out on it, there's always Lucksow Cup #3 to look out for, next Saturday (Febuary 13th - 10 PM EST (GMT-5)).
That leaves us with an empty agenda on Sunday... Or does it? ESL makes sure we're not bored! They host a duel cup, which starts at 4pm (CET) and wins you a 2 months ESL premium account for those nice high-res vidcasts! I'd like one. For more information, hit up the forums!
Then finally some 'old' competition news, but great nonetheless: Guwashi recently posted a bunch of photos in the CyAC e-Sports Japan Championship thread. His photos give us a nice insight of the LAN held in Tokio last December, and shows us some of the active Japanese scene we too seldomly are confronted with. I wouldn't mind a LAN like that sometime soon around here!
arigato Guwashi!

A quick post to celebrate a long-awaited feature: we now have a newsfeed on the frontpage sidebar, and a link to our
RSS feed. I knew there was one, but couldn't find it until Opera Mini displayed it at the top of my browser window :P (great feature). Anyway, hangy added all this stuff for your browsing and navigational pleasure, so props to him!
In other news, twice released a very interesting and complete gametype mod: i+. It has some smart and (assumingly) well thought out features such as shots being reflected once, and the ability to reload twice as fast after a frag. I'm pretty excited about this mod, mostly because the features are creative and smart. For a proper introduction, check out his informative (and likewise well-made) YouTube video!
And now this YouTube window is open anyway, why don't we type in "Dodge This!"? If you did, you're seeing george5078's HD Warsow fragmovie with high quality frags of various Warsowians.
After watching this, give the search query "Vinterdagen" a shot. Chances are you'll end up at dendrofil's excellent fragmovie, with a very peculiar visual style, atmosphere and soundtrack. A recommendation! I really liked it.
Finally if you're pumped up enough after watching all this Warsowian splendour, sign up for the next Lovesow Cup, scheduled as always on a Sunday: February 7th. It'll be a pickup-style bombcup, which means you don't have to assemble teams of 10 players all by yourself, but you get put into teams by the great Warsowian ruler h1o, to play side by side with your Warsowian brothers and sisters!
Okay that's it for now! Remember to bookmark our
RSS Feed for ultra-rapid-always-on-point-updatedness (does that make sense?). And keep track of the right sidebar :P!
Warchooo!

viiGo put together a really nice fragmovie: DISCOSOW! It features his frags, caught from demos on public servers in both Warsow 0.42 and 0.5.
DISCOSOW is a short and happy movie with psychedelic happy colours and an energetic happy soundtrack. And it makes jal smile. For an extensive description of his project and the oppurtunity to give feedback, check out the forum thread.
Get it at own-age.com, it weighs in at 245 mb at a high-quality 720p HD resolution. It takes four and a half minutes of your precious time, so no excuse not to watch! Go and download that shit! Streams will be put up later!
Great job viiGo!
