Warsow gives me nausea

Today, I decided to get rid of an almost 20yo habit : I stopped to play with invert mouse. I expect from this to gain a bit of aim and accuracy, specially with hitscan weapons, where you have to stick crosshair onto your opponent.

After a couple of hours of training, my old brain was totally twisted. I even had to make some breaks because of a persistent feeling of nausea (hence the half april fool title), and my mind kept confused for several minutes during breaks.

It's a very strange experience to feel like an almost complete newbie in a such familiar environment. I started to feel concerned to not be able to play some pub games as usual. So, after a while, I tried to switch back to invert mouse, but it was even worse ! Then I decided to turn back and hold on to no invert mouse.

Let's date in few days to see if I can finally get used to this. ATM, I can only play easy bots, so you can imagine how frustrated I am =)
Of course, there no garantee of any benefit at all on the long range. Still, it's an interesting challenge.

Next step will be to learn to play with a left-handed config. Though I am left-handed, I'm using mouse with the right hand since those computer devices exist. Sounds like an über-challenge =)

Now that 1.0 has been stabilized with 1.03 release, it's time for me to say goodbye and head on to new projects.

So long, and thanks for all the pork.

1.03 (Autoupdate + SDK) released.

New set of modules and media has been unleashed to autoupdate, and will arrive at servers as soon as they update themselves. warsow-esport.net servers are up to date already, with http mirror for fast update downloads.

Changelog

New stuff:
- Higher-poly health models.
- Regeneration powerup. Mappers can add this in radiant by adding 'item_regen' item.
- New map: wda5.
- More detailed wdm5.
- Server browser has sorting now. However, this needs a manual UI .pk3 update, download it here (place to basewsw).
- Meat gibs removed, cg_gibs values bigger than 1 now increase amount of pixel gibs.

Fixed stuff:
- /whois -1 crashes the server.
- Users can workaround the banlist by supplying two ip addresses in the userinfo.
- Memory leak in linear allocator.
- Negative values of Demojump break POV change.
- Mitigated problems with serverbrowser performance.

Gameplay balancing to clean up some rushy problems, most of which originated from weak ammo removal:
- RL: -100ups +50ms reload.
- RG: +5dmg per blast.
- GL: -20 splash +50ms reload.
- PG: -1dmg per cell and -200ups.
- MG: +10dps.
- Bomb has 5 less nades, from 15 to 10.

Cheers.

Hello everyone.

Since Playdeb is down for good, and it sucks not having proper .debs for easy installation on Ubuntu, I'm looking for some community help with this to setup some kind of semi-automatic packaging of Ubuntu .debs (Why not Debian too..).

If you're willing to help, mail me (crizis@warsow.net) or msg me at IRC (Quakenet, #warsow) if you have experience with .deb building, how the process goes and what needs to be done etc etc.

Thanks.

Forum development, private messages.

Hello Warsow.

I finally got around implementing private messages to the "new forum. This is still pretty work in progress, so all bug reports and feature requests are welcome. Old PM data was more or less converted, but might have some errors, but doubt anyone will lose their sleep over that as data is almost 2 years old :)

Here's short overview of private messages. You can find them from either Forum subnavi or from top of the page:

The default view of private message page, showing your open discussions:

Example view with discussion opened:

You can find private message link to person from his/hers profile page:

.. or alternatively you can use Start new discussion button in the private messages page itself. Search is at the moment quite plain and ugly, but should do the job.

Cheers.

Back in 1999-2000,
while shaping first concept of War§ow, I had in mind kind of strike-back from Quake/DM/duel scene against CS.
13 years later, I didn't changed my mind, Warsow remains what Quake3 should have been from the beginning.

I wish 2k13 to be a major date for the Die Hard War§ow maverick and the duel/DM scene.
So we got to hold on, mates. Let's keep on doing our thing, what goes around comes around and payback time is coming.

This is why, you :
ID Software owners and founders of GPL license, as major actors of DIY, eLearning and innovation;
founders of those little Quake physic bugs that changed the world of FPS;
founders of the implicit but not mandatory hi/hf/gg consensus in DM/duel scene;
Vic, brave Qfusion founder;
Crizis, Toukka, Jihn, Kimza, dozens of brave leaders, devers, gamers, who often held wsw on your shoulders till burnout;
Hundreds of core warsowians who contributed in any way;

thank you for helping Warsow to become real,
thank you for helping us to carve into stone Warsow's fundamentals,
thank you for supporting us since all those years,
thank you for having made the right choice.
Maybe some of you didn't realised it yet, but you are all major actors of videogame history =)

Merry Xmas to all Warsow community, and overall,
Respect, Sportsmanship and self-moderation powa !

Hello!

In case you haven't noticed the 'Donate' button is back. In case you want to donate some of your hard earned pay to us, you can use the donation button at the lower left of the website which opens the Paypal form.

The money collected by will be spent on advertising warsow in social networks, prize money for cups and possibly hiring freelancing modellers to gradually upgrade Warsow's dating visuals (which costs a lot).

So if you want to see more and better Warsow, please don't hesitate to click the button and fill the form. Even small donations help and will be accepted humbly.

Help us fix ingame serverbrowser and earn some cash

Since the release of Warsow 1.0 we've had a lot of players reporting troubles with the ingame serverbrowser: mouse lags, sound stuttering and so on. The underlying reason for those troubles is CPU spikes caused by the DOM-tree update mechanism in the GPL middleware UI library we use, libRocket. The more rows the serverbrowser has, the slower UI updates become, causing 100% usage of the CPU.

So far we've been unable to track down and fix the exact cause of the bottleneck in the library by ourselves therefore ask the community and outsiders for help in fixing this particular problem within libRocket. The code will be then donated back to the library. The winner who gives the best of all provided solutions will be rewarded with cash prize of €150 (via paypal). You may post your solution by replying to this blogpost. And don't forget to pass this on to your fellow programmers! ;)
