WIP screenshots
i'm really enjoying playing on wbomb1 tbh and i even think it looks
very good actually. :)

the gametype was thrown together at the last minute, but it doesnt stop it being fun. The maps were also done very quickly (i agree about the grates on alley, those arent very good), but thats why we would like some new maps for it. In the end, every warsow gametype has been done in a myriad of different games, but the CS style bomb is the first time such a gametype appears in a fast paced DM fps and its proving to be quite alot of fun for many people...
Oh don't get me wrong I completely understand how it can be enjoyable by many people, but personally I didn't really like it. The only reason I got snappy is because Jal thinks I'm somehow emulating wbomb1s style, which I thought was pretty rude considering the lack of planning and craftsmanship of the map.
I'll give it another try in a few days when I don't have as much work to get done on babyimwhat.
with respect to your map WHAT, i found that the wall with the
lampposts was too high , you cant really see the terrain behind it.
Tbh, i think you should remove that wall and just keep the nice
terrain. from the look of that latest screenshot, you may have done
that already, altho that may just be another part of the map.
You know I was thinking about doing that, but I don't want that
area to be too open. I was going to do a chainlink fence, but that
shader absolutely kills FPS for me so I imagine it would do worse
for other players as well. I'll tinker with the design a bit and
see what I can come up with. I might just lower it.
I made some new textures for the walls. Kind of liking the painted
look.

for comparison

It's subtle. :)

ye, that thing certainly does affect fps, especially when looking
through one grate at another.
oh and ye, wbomb1 is a composite work. Uz made a super simple
layout, and jal tried to make it at least presentable, but your
right about it being a bit of a mess in terms of style. Im still
very glad we were able to get a bunch of (far from perfect maps)
together for release though. The gametype was started about 1month
before 0.5 release so we didnt really have time to a) test layouts
out properly and b) do a proper job with the map finishing. that
being said, some of the maps play reasonably well and look decent.
Im sure that in the hands of the community, there will be some
really great maps coming out, with great gameplay and great looks
:) i think u have a pretty good reputation when it comes to making
nice looking maps so i guess thats why people are asking u to make
a bomb map :P

Like I said, I'll give it another go and see how it plays out.
That red pops. I like it.
I finally figured out what I was doing wrong with my decals. Tottally all about some paint swatch action now.

Hmm, unattended pallets and barrels? Are we going to have
conveniently-sized boxes placed for cover next? :P
If you have a map with one of these:

on either side, what do you put in the middle? Btw, this is for a gametype I want to develop; I'm probably not a good enough mapper to pull off a good one for it, but I'm still gonna try.

I think when you have things like that it might start out too
symmetrical which dampens the gameplay. Unless you're doing some
kind of weird CTF mod of course.
I wish Warsow had respawning exploding barrels. That would be so sick.

It's supposed to be one where you're trying to destroy the enemy's
throne while protecting yours, and will feature rebuildable towers
and buying weapons/armor/movement skills. It sorta needs a map like
this.

make them by yourself with func_explode
Love the overall design and visual style of your map, WHAT. Bet
it's gonna be great for CA/bomb action (are going to put some
bomb-mode entities? pls, that would be awesome!).
Keep up the great work! :)

I personally think the warsow style is tacky and boring and that there is a lot more that could be done with the game other than making everything futuristic. I think the Bomb maps are a huuuge step in the right direction as far as diversifying styles goes. I've never tried to stray too far into TF2 style, but I do like the palette better than trying to figure out what mood of "tron" I'm up for mapping. :)
trying to get the lighting right on these rock faces is going to take a hell of a long time :(
I really liked teh way the teal stood out in this shot :) it looks more dull at the moment :( or am I just imagining stuffs?
