Shootmania : Warsow killer ? (plz read : shootmania = next esport big thing ?)

i think shootmania is going to be like painkiller, alive for 1
year, then dropped by everyone except 7 players refusing to let it
go, and eventually someone like gorey is going to try it out for a
month or so, raping the 7 players and then realize that warsow is
le way to go.

Some more info. Developer is Nadeo, founder of Trackmania. They got a solid experience as regards esport (both online and big rl events wise), community management, user generated content, etc.
The only reason why I could imagine it to turn into a failure is about community management, specially ingame. Average level of frustration, and opportunities of frustration, are for sure bigger in a shooter game than in a race against the clock game =)

The gameplay doesn't seem to have any depth at all, saw some video
of strenx playing it, widely open boring maps, and only 1 weapon?
read an interview with the lead developer somewhere where he said
that to use rail in this game, you have to stand on some platform,
and only there you can use it, how retarded is that ? will not work
well for esports.

yeah well depends what it means.if its similar than in warsow, that
it means maps/gametypes maybe then its ok and umm I dont see why
that nadeo's mapping system wouldnt work.Trackmania has many
insanely good maps and if theres as much variation in shootmanias
mappingtool assets I think this game wont fail because of its maps
atleast.
Layouts in warsow/quakelike games are very simple actually so I disagree with overkill about the fact that maps will be boring.

I agree with kimza that gameplay look boring tho and dont have any depth in it.Dont look very fast,even call of duty is faster than this.

Dafuq are you talking about??? Painkiller was alive for 2004/2005 and even in 2006 it was still pretty active. By now the community is about 16-32 players but still cups are played from time to time. GoReY got his ass beaten when he played Painkiller during the Christmas Cup. Else than that, I don't think that Shootmania can reach the level of Painkiller, it's just too slow and looks boring.
The gameplay in the default setup looks kinda slow. But I guess the
game speed is adjustable, as well as the weapon stats. Everybody
can start a game with their own rules. The most popular rule sets
will survive. Looks very democratic to me.
I don't think the top players will choose SM for competitive playing, but I think it's got the potential to become popular among casual players.

I doubt it'll be better than wsw, as i love the competitious part ot wsw, but that giving other stuff a chance keeps up the competition and pressure to develope good games.

AFAIK its not free, with something like $19,99€ price tag on it.
Still it's not a problem, since a "retail" mostly is better than a
"free2play" or completely free one.
Btw: id Soft/Bethesda want to rerelease Quake 4 this year for something like 20 USD.
