Major lag in Warsow menu but not in-game

I'm experiencing major intermittent lag on Warsow 1.0's new menu. I did not experience this with 0.62. In-game, I can run everything at the highest settings with full AA/AS, no problem. I'm experiencing this on both Slackware -current and Debian -testing. Any idea what could be causing this?

That's when it's the worst. However, lately it seems to start happening when I exit a game as well, and then it gets REALLY bad--like 1 FPS bad.

Nope.

'tis a shame, considering I loved Warsow. Lately the lag has gotten so bad that it's in-game as well. Getting 1/2 FPS or less, which totally locks up the game and I have to quit (takes easily 2 minutes to exit the game).

I'll try and disable my connection to the Internet and see if that resolves the issue (I'm away from home and can't try it right now). If so, I'll just disallow Warsow to access the 'net. Disappointing though.

I get the slow downs in the menus as well.
Happens before I can even get to the server browser usually.
I wonder if there is a way to (easily) disable the fancy UI.
