Hi :) Happy pigging time!
Hi Hoggers,
I've just started playing warsow, and it's awesowme. I've played a lot of fps, and played qw/q2/q3/cpma/ql a LOT (and love it).
One thing I'm having difficulty with is the wall jump. I find it porkuliar that this is not bound to "jump".
I love the super oink dash, but it seems rather strange putting wall jump action on the dash button. If I could wall jump with my jump button, and oink dash with my oink dash button, this game would be perfect. Hopefully there is some way of getting this snorted out, as its really hampering my play style.
I don't mean to truffle anyones feathers, but it's the one area that suckles.
Anyway, bacon topic, other than what I've stated I have no other complaints. This game is fun as ham!
May the oink be with you.
Rgds

what the? I lol'd but I dun get what he's talking about
may the pork be with ya

youll get used to it, it was wack for me at first aswell (after
lots of q3 engine gaming), but after some time it'll come to you
& probably be be better then if it was on the same button,
since your often close to walls & would make unwanted walljumps
constantly if your suggestion were to be used.
peace!
peace!
I don't mean to sound disgruntled, but I'm old, and have trouble
learning.
Basically, in my games yesterday, I was stuck in areas where I "should" have been able to jump, or double jump out of. However, the only way to get up these tiny little pig sized stacks of boxes was to jump AND use the oink jump. It felt retarded.
It will probably be a contentious issue, but I believe that in this circumstance, Warsow has less than optimal movement. Every other aspect of the movement is fantastic. The whole game is like a better version of CPMA (which is one of the best games ever created).
If the jump button just performed the jump action against whatever surface you were touching, I think that would be great. If you were touching 2 surfaces, give the lower one the priority.
I have very slim hopes of anything being done about this, and I don't expect it too.
The reason I bring it up is, I play very few games at a time. Generally one game will grab my attention, and I'll play it over and over and over. I want this to be Warsow, however I don't see it taking much time away from Gran Turismo 5, and my experience with the wall jumping is the main significant contributing factor.

I've just realized that dendro is a tree's lover. And I didn't
think about it, but what Ikarys said actually made sense to me,
would be fun to test
I wouldn't like that. I want to jump with the jump button and I
don't want to make accidental walljumps. If I wasn't using autohop,
I wouldn't want it to mess my jump rhytm up. Imo the walljump is
just much better in the special key.
But if you want to you can bind special and jump at the same key..

Huksy, no you can't. It would dash instead of jump
Ikaris: It's more usable to merge the walljump with the dash key than with the jump key. It just happens that you are not yet used to dash.

jal: I disagree. The first game to get wall jumping right was
mirrors edge. Unfortunately it sucked in many other areas Super
meat boy did an excellent job of this too.
I used to train in parkour and the 2 concepts of jumping and dashing are completely separate.
It seems very foreign to me that jumping on a wall and jumping off the floor are treated differently from a control mechanism.
Is there a circumstance where pressing wall jump and jump at the same time you would get an undesirable result?
You can only ever do one of the actions for a given player position. Dash on the other hand, could be useful while not wall jumping. Eg, building up speed and dropping from a ledge down a wall.
Wall jumps are one of the things I wish CPMA had, and I often thought about it as a game mechanic.
Granted I'm not used to it, but my argument stands.
Also, pig humor is hilarious. Come on guys, ham it up! Draw your pork swords (Ok ok, that was a bit much).

if you jumed all time you spent in this topic, you wouldve learned
it by now
Even if your very polite & whatnat, im sure you realise that the walljump wont change from dash to jump buttom now, after many many years with tons of players already gotten used to it, right?
If ju really wanna walljump just make some funky bind like +moveup;+special

Of course I realise that. I mean who am I... I'm not some porcine
expert jumping in and trying to change everything
But hey, a forum is a forum is a forum. I'll try that bind - it might fix it for me. Thanks.
Just because something is old doesn't mean its perfect and immutable.
I'll give this jumping a bit more of a go... but tbh, it still feels borked, and a bit of a missed opportunity.
If the bind works, then awesome, I have no complaints, and porkwar is officially the best game ever created!
I also would not see a problem if it was an option. It's not going to give anyone an advantage over the other, but might suit different play styles.

Man, its so close.
Doing
bind mouse2 "+moveup; +special"
makes special get stuck on, so I tried
bind mouse2 "+moveup; +special; -special"
but that doesn't work.
So I tried
bind mouse2 "+special; +moveup; -moveup;"
but it just means jump gets stuck down.
Soooo close!! Any pointers?

Ok, this is pretty much it.
alias "+superoink" "+moveup; +special"
alias "-superoink" "-special; -moveup"
bind mouse2 +superoink
The only problem is when you are right next to a wall and jump because it executes the wall jump AND the normal jump. I can probably live with this.
Btw,
Q: Who was Hamlet?
A: Piglet's son.

Just FYI, this bind makes the game awesome!!!
(And old movement which I was just shown)

well atleast for me it jumps when I hold both special and jump keys.
But you're right, it's more useful that way. Don't worry ikaris, you'll get used to it and then you think it's better in the dash key too
For binding those at same button, you can try this:
alias +jash "+moveup; +special"
alias -jash "-moveup; -special"
bind mouse2 +jash
It was something like this, maybe not exactly this way but this is possible. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
