New here, some questions

Hello everyone,

I'm new to Warsow, but not new to strafe jumping and the ID Tech 3 engine. I played Openarena for a year or two now, and wanted to try another game next to Openarena. As I've always loved it (and Quake 3 at LAN parties too) for it's fast speed compared to nearly all other shooters, Warsow seemed a good choise.

Ingame things work pretty fine, only chatting is a bit weird… People use speech binds/chats, which is normal, but actually nearly never normal chat. When I ask a question, it's like they just don't see it. Do people turn normal chat off or something, or don't they bother to answer me?
The question I had was which command is to switch team. I can probably look it up in the wiki or when typing 'team' in the console, but if someone could have just told me that'd have been easier.

Also I have a few general questions:
- How popular is CTF here? In Openarena nearly all popular servers are CTF, some are DM, and lately we have some more activity in CA. It seems here you play nearly no CTF? Edit: Nevermind, found this topic: http://www.warsow.net/forum/ge.....ctf-games/. /edit.
- Is allweapons ever played (like, is there some server where there are always some players playing allweaps)? From the few games I joined, they were all with that railgun-like-gun (I don't know the names of all weapons yet).
- Is it common to bind weapons?
- Are there any network tweaks I should know of, like the 'rate' in Q3/Openarena or cl_timenudge?

And lastly I wonder how 'alive' this game is. It appears openarena is a dying game, is Warsow getting any new players? In OA most newbies get owned pretty badly the first few weeks/months, and without someone to play with at their level they quit soon. Most ingame here don't seem to be very pro though, but that might be because I'm an instantgib player in openarena and all games here so far have been instantgib (that combined with some beginners luck.. ^^).

Yes, it's very common to bind weapons in Warsow. I think most of the more experienced players have weapons binded to different keys instead of just lastweap and nextweap.

and people don't turn off chat, maybe u got ignored u or were on a server with bots? hotkey for joining (the other) team is f3, hotkey for readying up is f4 and for specing up it is f5. Those railgun-only servers are instagib, u can show/hide instagib severs with the filter of ur ingame server browser.
If u are going to play nw (normal weapons – the not instagib modes) u'll have to bind the weapons, yes – and of course it is played too. I also recommend u #warsow.pickup for additional nw activity beside the little public action.

And I bound f3 to ready up, but I'll find the right command somehow, didn't really search yet.

Just the last question remaining, how many new players the game gets. I like Warsow but it would be a bit wasting my time if it is at the same position as the game I come from lol.

i'd say wsw community is a little bit bigger, not that a huge difference though

Yeah, 'normal weapons' would almost make you think that the other one is the 'abnormal' weapon.

People are sometimes to busy playing to answer, but i always try to answer when someone got a question, as someone said you can filter instagibmodes so it doesn't show up.

I would say CA is the most popular gamemode, with "allweapons" if you have irc then #warsow.pickup would be a great place to find games on, that includes ctf
