Facebook Integration
Hi all,
This is something I've suggested myself in the past, and after a long chat with Dromer/Ka last night about it I thought I'd take the time to post it here.
Has any consideration been made to integrating the facebook API into Warsow? I've not had chance to look into it myself, but I'm sure it's possible. It may have already been considered and discarded, or it might be planned in a future release. I don't know.
As a programmer myself I how annoying/easy it is to suggest yet *another* feature for a game that has too many ideas and not enough coders, but I really do think this will have a bigger impact on drawing new players than any other method.
"Warsow: Player just planted 5 bombs!"
"Warsow: Player just captured 6 enemy flags on Crizis CTF Server!"
"Warsow: PlayerX just scored a triple frag on Crizis DM Server!"
"Warsow: Player is on FIRE!"
"Warsow: Player won 6 duel games today!"
"Warsow: PlayerX just beat PlayerY (11-8) on Crizis Duel Server!"
"Warsow: ClanX just beat ClanY (11-8) on Crizis CA Server!"
"Warsow: Player is ranked #1 on Crizis Duel Server!"
"Warsow: Player just set a new time of 34:02.1 on wsr1 on Crizis Race Server!"
There are stats available for the servers, so you could embed links in these messages. I know that there will soon be a player/clan matchmaking service, and again this could link directly to some page with those stats.
Let me know what people think to this. Remember that facebook updates are available on browsers, mobile hardware, games consoles, tv and a number of other formats.
Cheers,
Gareth

Not possible.

fuck off with facebook, mate.
nothing more annoying than games spamming the wall, for people who actually use FB.

Ah, that's a real shame. Never mind. Thanks Crizis. You did more
than I did by checking the details.
@Vector, that's exactly why you'd want to implement it in your game. That "spam", as annoying as it might be, is why facebook games are played by tens of millions worldwide.

dunno why, but I want wsw-userbars with-in integrated statistics.
Smth like ''PlayerX is #2043 dueler in the world'', or ''PlayerY
spend 1 year 3 mounth 20 days 4 hours and 38 minutes in the
game''...
that is not usefull functionallity, stop requesting that. its not
like there couldnt be done more to improve the client and game
experience itself. no one gives a shit about you duelrank, except
other warsow players and they know where to look that up. no need
shove it up everybodies throat.
im sure it will be integrated in the forum, when webstats are implemented, anyway.

Yes, forum profile will point to the game profile in the future.

Does this require that the game profile name is the same as forum profilename?
In-game name is not forced. Think it like same kind of system as
irc/quakenet auth. In whois you're listed authed as account huksi,
but you can have name GoreyFanBoy96.

What's up with that anger and rude tone of yours Vector? He's only suggesting something, this is a game for the community by the community (atleast that's what I remember from my first encounters with War§ow). Everybody has the right to suggest thing, no matter how stupid they might seem to you/me there still will be other people who think they are good features. So why not tell him that his idea is not doable/good in a more appropriate way?

fb addict spotted
I think it was more a subjective knee-jerk reaction than anything
else. Everyone's entitled to their opinion. My suggestion was to
use the most popular social networking platform as a method of
bringing more players into Warsow. If he thinks that's a bad idea,
let him say it. :)
Crizis pointed out that the API is currently not available for projects like Warsow. I mentioned it in seriousness because it's a feature I know is already used by some commercial games (e.g. Sonic & SEGA All Stars Racing, Angry Birds). (I'm not referring to browser-based games).

knee-jerk indeed. didnt think anybody would feel offended.

What comes to Facebook, you can always link Warsow videos or
promote Warsow without any FB-integrations as well.
Yep, agreed. But 95% of wsw players are too lazy or don't believe
in facebook, so we need to do it for them ;)
