Dumping Arch for Ubuntu
Just writing here to tell you all that I have decided to dump Arch
Linux. I'm tired of messing and looking for shitty hacks for my ATI
card after every kernel or xorg update. If I don't update then I
get dependency raped sooner or later by package z.
My Xorg server is f**ked it uses 7% when idle. Sometimes I have to reboot several times because my screen stays blank.
I cant use console >__< if my graphical session crashes then I'm blind. If i wanna log in as a another user I have to do it in terminal.
I cant afford unstable OS for my production environment. I have countless bugs related to gtk that no one will fix ("why don't you fix them yourself???" --- lol). I have several bugs related to NetRadiant on arch ONLY.
Also I'm going to run a web server so it would be a good idea to run it on more stable software.
Maybe one day I will return to Arch when I have a extra computer for fun.
So my game-server gonna be off-line for few days/weeks and I wont be able to be active on the forums.
PS. Forgot to add that I might acquire some dedicated server hardware in few months, its possible that I might separate some resources for a small site related to warsow.... something similar to warsow news.
Edit:
Going for Linux Mint, I hate Ubuntu Unity
LoL mate desktop:

nyan nyan nyan .... lol I meet that cat everywhere

wow, never heard an opinion as bas as that about arch, but it
figures. you can still run into similiar problems with other
distros.
you dont need to use unity with ubuntu, you can install e.g. xfce instead, maybe uninstall ubuntu. seems like a nessecary alternative, since mate is not gonna receive enough security updates as far as im informed.

Arch uses pretty much vanilla packages, so 'arch specific' bugs are
rare.

... and then you choose community fork with about 5-6 developers. That's an convincing operating system to run in "production". And instead of just apt-getting whatever desktop you want, you're gonna install new OS. That's just wow ^_^

I reckon that. Adminstrating a server with Arch does require keeping track of changes in the system yourself, you can't blindly trust updates and upgrades like you could with more managed distribution like Ubuntu or Fedora. So Arch brings more responsibility for the users by providing basic packages pretty much as-is and it's you who has to make it work.
And I might just bash you (no pun intended) from keeping a X11 server on production server machine, but I cba ;)

Actually I'm not going to use mate either, I gonna install openbox, I have used it for a year and love it.

Netradiant on Arch has a very nasty build menu crash, something to do with gtk I think.
Also netradiant from icculus doesnt compile and I had to use git.xonotic.org/xonotic/netradiant.git instead.

When I started to use linux, back these days ubuntu was different and Linux Mint was more user friendly. I got used to it.

I know its a stupid argument specially if I'm going to use a different desktop anyway :D I just prefer Mint for reasons I even cant remember :D
EDIT:
Decided to go for ubuntu.
One thing that concerns me is that how is the state with ATI cards there ???
EDIT2:
Actually dont care gonna install drivers manually anyway lol.
PROTIP: Install gentoo XD

Works fine, I run 12.04 with gnome-shell and catalyst 12.4 drivers (package 'fglrx-updates' for this version, iirc default proprietary driver is 11.8)
Ok Ubuntu is working. I was suprised that it offered the driver.
Ran warsow and all works great. Gonna install openbox.
PS On ubuntu I get serverlist very fast, on arch it took like 2 minutes before it loaded all.
