Yeah, it's incredible to think that 7 years of hard work from many people have gone into this game. This is a huge milestone.

Was reading the wikipedia articles on some versions of linux that apparantly have enough lines of code that they'd take over 50 years for a single person, and cost a company a couple billion dollars to develop.

Makes me wonder how much warsow is worth :D

@ Devs: try to stay strong dudes. Don't listen to whiners, you have done extraordinary work.

Lol i promised myself that I will learn C++ (enough to write meaningful code) for wsw 1.0 release
...gotta set a new milestone.

No! Learn angelscript! Then you can support the game without messing with it.

I'm already learning it (slide_un), but I need c++ anyway to understand how the game works and how to make a decent gt script.

Currently I'm busy with php shit (work).

List of languages I have tried: Visual Basic (crap), Perl, Python, C, C++ (love it)

I'd definitely suggest C# (monodevelop is a good ide, no matter the OS)

Goes without saying that I support this game :D

Warsow is 90% c, only the new ui is in c++.

On a side note, on the contrary to all other oo language, learning advanced c++ is very unique and don't illustrate a lot of concepts that you can reuse out of others oo languages. If you aren't motivated enough, just leave it from now. You can come back to it later. Better know 1 or 2 language at expert level, than just be able to hack things in 6 or 7. There is a ton of merit knowing programming efficiently and a bit of project driving that outweight being a versatile hacker, by a lot.

IMHO you should learn C/C++ _first_ if you ever want to use that, writing C#, Java, PHP or anything alike which abstracts away lowlevel stuff (which, argue with me or not, still exist heavily in C++) will get you scratching your head when you start writing c++.
More than that I'd recommend to learn C first which then gives you important tools to understand C++ well.
And yes there has been playful thoughts about converting the codebase to at least compile as C++-code which would allow further developing in C++.

I just wanted to warn about the fact it's not really useful/instructive to learn about c++, if you want to learn about programming in general. I know a lot of people willing to learn this language as their 1st oo language because they think it's cool, that are unaware of how specific and technical it can be, and have still plenty to learn in software developement. Ofc, if being c++ dev is your goal, then just go for it, and it's easier going with C background. Else, you can decide later, and you should probably work background more, because it always worth it.

I'd like to tell, one more time, my biggest respect and gratitude to the leads, devs and sowians who worked hard or helped a lot to make Warsow 1.0 happen.

As you probably know, the development started 10 years ago. We're prolly one of the oldest cowboy coding projects among the quakedev scene.

First, we faced countless ppl claiming the concept (trick jumps + cellshading) was BS. Later, we faced countless ppl claiming the game has no chance of any success. Later, we faced countless ppl claiming the game was dead. And see, our game still stands as a major challenger in the (small) scene/niche of Fast Paced Shooters =)

I can't resist to have a sad feeling as regards all first range internal and community contributors who reached the burn out during all those years.

Anyway, May War§ow finally reach the audience it deserves. Thanks and glhf to all =)
