Don't know anything about the limitations you might have with the new server browser. So if this is plain stupid just ignore it :D

Someone said that it's not possible to do filtering in real time.

Maybe this is an idea that works?

And then you hit refresh button to show new filter settings.
Some filtering would be nice, even though it doesn't happened real time.
I like to use server browsers ingame, but with this it's hard to find servers some times :/

It would be really nice if we could filter or reorder by ping, players in game as well as duel, as quake live has. For example, if I only want to duel at the moment, I should be able to hide all the other servers so that only the duel servers are there.

Not possible.

Librocket freezes the game for 4-5 seconds (full lock) even on sorting redraw.

Maybe some ideas...
How it does the current sort by 'players'?
Do master server send it that way or ...?
Why would sorting by a different order be so slow?

When we change the tab (eg. from regular to instagib) and go back it toggles the displayed list instantly. So, why changing the "filter" it redraws and freeze the game? Aren't 'regular' and 'instagib' kinds of filter as is 'players'?

this slow and buggy server browser is really a pain. im pretty sure that its turned alot of people off ^^

perhaps put the browser on the webpage in a more prominent position? it works well and is as fast as loading the game etc.

anyone who doesn't like the current server browser is free to donate some $$$ which we will subsequently pay to libRocket's maintainer for fixing the performance issues.

oh, ye, forgot to mention, he charges 60$ per hour.

tbh, nobody forced you guys to use librocket... its unfair to try and blame the players for it now... also, i think players have generally been very understanding in the face of what is objectively speaking a rather massive and embarrassing fuckup to have a nonfunctional server browser after 7 years of beta...

besides, the website has a web based browser thats functions pretty well, why not make it easier to find rather than hiding it behind the tiny 'xx players online' at the top of screen?

This is not what I said, stop twisting my words pls.

Besides, what's so bad about helping two open source projects?

Trust me, it's been even bigger pain for us, we tried to solve the performance issues for several months, concluding that librocket simply can't be optimized, it would need some serious rewrite.

Core of the problem is, whenever you add anything to datagrid ("table", like server browser), librocket insists on re-rendering whole dom tree (every single element!). This is why you'll notice server browser starts lagging more and more, whenever more server comes to the view. Now, with 100 and some servers on the screen, you can just imagine what happens when you suddenly wanna re-short whole datagrid.. bang!

And yes, it sucks even more that we noticed this long after all the other hard work was done: integrating that beast to Warsow, getting angelscript bindings done, finishing the setup ui's, getting models render in the ui etc etc... and then librocket throws this shitty datagrid issue on our face.

We did consider fetching server lists from the web too, but then again problems with this are
1) you cannot ping servers to show local servers,
2) you can't query lan servers!

On the upside, we made really easy server favorites which should ease the server browser pain a bit.

This was done exactly to go around librockets limitations. If we'd render both nw + insta servers on the same view, it would be a disaster. This way we could at least split the amount of servers to two different datagrids.

ye, its a shame that it was only really discoverable once the work had been done as it would otherwise be very neat.

the best that can be done now is to provide some sort of alternative.

perhaps warsow.net homepage for players who access the site already logged in are redirected to their profile page, underwhich the webserver browser is displayed? players can then connect directly via webpage. i dont know whether this can apply to linux users though...

Why does the ingame server browser start searching for servers when the game is booted? Wouldn't it be better if the game start refreshin the servers, when the player goes into the server tab? Then the game doesn't lag when you first start it and edit the settings.

just do front/home page as on quakelive.com site:
if you're not logged in then there is slide show of screnshots from game and invitation to join and login
if you're logged in then there is customizable serverbrowser. and there is no serverbrowser ingame

crizis

thats one option to consider.

How about having 2 different tabs, one with fetched serverlist from web and one that show local games? Like regular / insta, but Online / Lan. Don't know if I understood you right though.

Yhe, the favorite feature is awesome.

Thanks puffdar.
