And yes that's a very good idea, only need the 3-4 first players to get more people on to the server.

A big part of why bomb pub died is cause it became cool to play pickup. This lead to the level in pickup dropping significantly (no hard feelings guys) which in the end led to most upper tier players becoming bored of pickup.

I'm not sure what to do about this but hanging around in pub definitly helps. Also map rotation on public needs to be worked with since everyone quits when wbomb2 comes up f.e. Maybe a couple of active admins would be nice, that's what kept I'M server running.

Map rotation may also be debated when it comes to CA IMO ^^

make weekly competitive pickups where people can signup in forums, but get only accepted if they have the neccessary skills

Recently : Bomb public active, 5v5 on dowtown. Some people spamming about adding, even being agressive ("just !add retards" etc.). Pickup start, the pub game go 2v2, and dissolve 2 maps later. What is supposed to be a tool to gather players became a tool of exclusion. This is fully retarded, and i really want to point out lame attitude because it seem to become so standard to spam that kind of shit.

Just remove bomb pu and replace by occasionnal cups, for greater good

Doesnt matter if you are skilled player or not! I still hate you all! Even pickup games!

problem is that bomb public played by pickup players. When .6 released, there was 15-20 ppl on pub bomb all the time, and only few ppl of them took part in pickup games

Agreed, so stupid everytime I see it, just play the damn match instead of spamming about pickup.

maybe you shouldnt tell every guy whos new to wsw to join #warsow.pickup and !add. pickup is not supposed to be a place for new players to get into the game. its for over-public-average-skilled players who want to improve and for whom public aint a challenge any more
but that was long time ago, now pickup is full of noobs who are public-material but they dont care because there are enough of other noobs in pickup.

TLDR; 80% of pickup players = public noobs not playing on public because there are enough noobs in pickup

removing bomb pu completely is a ridiculously retarded idea, but me and some other guys had the idea to make a exclusive (bomb) pickup channel for higher skilled ppl so the newbs go back to their public servers

well, the problem is that there is no matchmaking (yet?) so it is hard to find a place for the noobies where they don't play with people much higher or lower in skill

Well the problem is there aren´t always any public games to play, and when there is, it´s usually CA, which isn´t very fun. Friday night I had to join in a pickup bomb since there were no other options for me.
I was one of the shittier players due to my lack of experience of this game. But the other players didn´t seems to care too much about that since there was no other players on to play instead of nooby old me.

I get that the better players want to face other good players, but considering it´s hard to get 1 (!) game started a Friday night, do you/we have a choice?

It honestly depends on when you play. More people play during the day/evening in European time.

Also, please don't talk crap about new players playing in pickups. You have to start somewhere.

Pickup is public. Talk to myself or Dalai in IRC if you're having such serious issues with one or two new players joining an occasional pickup.

I agree with jwzr_ and slowi, you should learn the game first and play a lot of public before you try out a pickup, BUT this is not really possible at the moment, since the player base is so tiny. So if you want to play a 5v5 Bomb just bare with the new players.
I rarely get annoyed with new players (i thought you did quite good in the pickup I played with you Picasso, and since you told everyone that you were new, i dont think you got anybody picking on you either.) I've seen many completely new players performing a lot better than some pickup regulars, more often than not its the players that has been around for a long time that just play moronic that annoys me, but thats how it is when you play pickups and I almost accepted it as it is.

So, just accept the fact that we there now are newer players adding as well.

An aside:
I do miss the old 0.5 days when the level of the BOMB pickups were quite high. But if you wanna play high skilled games, get yourself a team of players and feel free to challenge us in #project (or other teams (lol), or ask for a mix), we rarely get to play together (only in the cups :S) as it is, and the reason why we have a team is that we enjoy to play together. And it would be fun to have some skirmishes.

And el_moto, there where a lot more players, and the skill level of some of them were higher, so we had fights that were really good. And there hardly ever where any people who added up that didn't know how to plant bomb or didn't know the maps etc.
