Is it possible for someone to code something that updates your msn/live messenger status that you are playing Warsow and to what server you are connected to?

Be great for encouraging contacts to join in.

Just a thought.. Cheers, Chris.

Have you checked Xfire ( http://www.xfire.com/) ? It's a neat program that allows you to track your friends down when they are playing. You should check it out.

#1: It LOOKS like crap, seriously... who the fuck designed it?
#2: Aside from not fitting in with the desktop at all and looking shit, it's really bloated.
#3: Crap performance, when in comparison to hlsw/ase/xqf
#4: Why the fuck do I wanna let people know what I'm doing... it makes no sense... can't lie then
#5: It's slow, like... the server refresh/ping methods are slow
#6: The 'messaging' system, aside from being useless bloat, causes more problems than it's worth with some games.

xfire has skins.. but i agree, i haven't seen any that look too good.. im using the simple skin or minimal skin whatever its called.. i dont see any performance loss while playing with it running.

i don't use the server browser with it, i use kquery for warsow/q4, but it keeps track of the last few servers i was on which i like.

the messaging system and knowing where my friends are playing when i want to talk/play with them is what i like about it.

agreed with meez; msn is crap as well. why not using icq? it's far from perfection, well the only perfect program is polish Gadu-Gadu. seriously a phenomenon, it's little, sweet and compact ;)

The maker of the thread wanted his friends to know where he played at the moment. I think that's the best program for it (that I know). I dont deny that it's slow and looks crap, but hey, easiest program to replicate the features thamossop wanted is Xfire. Allthough if you know a better program, you could share it with us.

No he didn't, he asked how to make warsow change his MSN status.

... Which would be, in this case, the same thing as using Xfire. Don't get carried away by some details. I just suggested that he could try that program to simulate the wanted effect.

Thanks for your answers so far..

Well, whilst using another program may be good and I even found a website where I could search for players in a range of online games, this would mean my friends would have to download that program or goto that site..

The fact is, I've managed to get a few of them to have a go on Warsow but I've never seen them on there myself. Advertising that I'm on and what server I'm in msn/live messenger would be the best method for me to be able to catch them online as all my friends use that messenger program already.

I mean whether it's icq, yahoo, aim, irc or whatever, the theory is the same, although msn/live messenger already has a comment line that updates with what ever song you are "Now Playing". I also have a patch for Live messenger called messenger plus (http://www.msgpluslive.net/) and this is extendable with a lot of scripts that anyone can write. One of the scripts is called xPSM which allows the manual updating of your comment line and even the choice of 3 icons, the standard music one for "Now Playing", an office one and a gaming one.

Thus, my thinking is that this cannot be that hard to code for someone who knows what they are doing, maybe even just expanding on the xPSM script, writing a mod for Warsow that sends this info out?
